Eyelid Surgery Can Help You Look Rested and Alert
Cosmetic eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, performed at our Denton, TX, practice can address sagging upper eyelids and under-eye puffiness, refreshing your appearance and creating a more youthful appearance. At North Texas Breast and Plastic Surgery, Dr. Bruce Hermann can perform this procedure to provide both cosmetic and practical benefits. In some cases, drooping eyelids can obstruct vision, and blepharoplasty can help you to see clearly once again. An eyelid surgery can also be performed in addition to a brow lift and dermal fillers to reduce fine lines and wrinkles in the forehead and around the eyes. During a consultation, Dr. Hermann can tailor a treatment to your specific needs.
Are You a Candidate?
During the initial consultation, Dr. Hermann will perform a detailed exam and review your medical history to determine if you are a candidate for eyelid surgery. He will also provide you with a list of instructions to follow beforehand to ensure that you achieve a successful recovery.
You may be an excellent candidate for this procedure if you:
- Are in good overall health
- Have realistic expectations
- Have excess skin and fat in the upper or lower eyelids
- Have drooping or puffy eyelids
- Have obstructed vision
- Have tired-looking eyes
- Are a non-smoker, or if you are willing to quit
Eyelid Surgery Procedural Steps
Before the procedure, Dr. Hermann will administer anesthesia to ensure that you are comfortable throughout surgery. The length of the procedure will depend on whether you are having an upper or lower eyelid surgery, a combination of both, or additional procedures, such as a brow lift. In most cases, the procedure can be completed in two to three hours.
For a lower eyelid surgery, Dr. Hermann will make discreet incisions in the lash line and remove excess skin, fat tissue, and muscles to minimize puffiness. He can also tighten lax muscles, redistribute fat, or add dermal fillers to create a smoother surface. For an upper eyelid surgery, Dr. Hermann will make the incisions in the natural creases, resulting in discreet, concealed scars. He will then lift the sagging eyelid and trim excess skin and fat for a more alert and refreshed appearance.
Dr. Hermann will close the incisions with barbed sutures to tighten the remaining skin. Finally, he will apply bandages and compression garments. You will need to have someone available to drive you home afterward and stay with you for the first 24 hours.
We offer financing to help you budget for cosmetic eyelid surgery. Our staff can speak with your insurance provider on your behalf if you need blepharoplasty for practical purposes.
What to Expect during Recovery
Dr. Hermann will send you home with detailed postoperative instructions to ensure that you achieve a successful recovery and satisfying results. You can minimize discomfort and promote a quicker recovery by taking your medications as prescribed, applying topical antibiotics, keeping the surgical site clean and dry, and using a cold compress. In the days following surgery, you will need to avoid strenuous activity. Dr. Hermann will monitor your recovery to let you know when it is safe to resume work, exercise, and other activities.
After the swelling, redness, and bruising have decreased in about one to two weeks, you will able to experience long-lasting results.
