An Arm Lift Can Target Stubborn Areas of Fat
A brachioplasty, more commonly known as an arm lift, is a body contouring procedure that can help you address cosmetic concerns in your arms. By tightening the underlying tissue, trimming away excess skin, and removing excess fat, Dr. Bruce Hermann can help your upper arm have a more defined, toned shape. For patients with concerns extending into their chest area, Dr. Hermann can also modify an arm lift to target additional areas. Since 2010, Dr. Herman has been helping patients in and around Denton, TX, rejuvenate their appearance and restore their confidence with advanced technology and a personalized touch.
Are You a Good Candidate?
The upper arms are difficult areas to target with diet and exercise alone. Cosmetic concerns in your arms can be caused by:
- Sagging or drooping skin
- Excess fat
- Significant weight loss
As with any cosmetic procedure, you should be healthy enough to undergo surgery in order to be considered for an arm lift. Unhealthy habits such as smoking can inhibit your ability to heal, and we suggest ceasing use of all tobacco products prior to undergoing surgery. As an arm lift will address only the area around your arms, you should also maintain realistic expectations and consider combining this surgery with other cosmetic procedures if you desire a more dramatic transformation.
Our practice is dedicated to helping patients prepare for surgery and make a fully recovery by providing extensive patient education and postoperative instructions.
Depending on the complexity of your condition as well as your desired results, Dr. Hermann will place an incision either on your inner arm or the back of your arm. A minimal incision can be made on the underarm for those patients who do not require extensive contouring. If you have excess fat, Dr. Hermann will remove this using liposuction before restructuring the tissue under your skin. Before closing your incisions with sutures, Dr. Hermann will smooth the skin over the newly tightened tissue to help you achieve a tight, dimple-free appearance. The entire surgery generally takes approximately one to two hours.
Types of Arm Lifts
Dr. Hermann is committed to providing an outstanding level of surgery you need to address your unique concerns. In addition to a standard arm lift, Dr. Hermann can perform a:
- Limited-incision brachioplasty
- Extended brachioplasty
He can modify a standard brachioplasty to include as little or as many areas of your arms as you would like to address.
Ensuring a Safe Recovery
During the first few weeks following your surgery, you should avoid any strenuous exercise that could cause your incisions to open or affect the results of your surgery. Elevating your arms during sleep and inactivity can help reduce the risk of inflammation and speed up your healing. With proper care and the approval of Dr. Hermann, most patients can return to work within two weeks of their surgery.
Although the elasticity of your skin will increase as you age, there are a few measures that you can take to maintain the results of your surgery. When in direct sunlight, you should cover your scars to help them fade. You should also maintain a stable weight to avoid reversing the effects of your arm lift.
