The Eyelid Surgery Procedure
Before this outpatient procedure, you will be administered anesthesia to ensure your comfort during surgery. The length of the procedure will depend on whether you are having upper eyelid surgery, lower eyelid surgery, or both. Surgery will take longer if additional procedures such as a brow lift are performed. In most cases, the procedure can be completed in two to three hours.
You will be administered anesthesia to ensure your comfort during surgery.
What Can I Expect During Recovery?
After surgery, you may experience watery eyes, light sensitivity, and double vision. You can also expect minor swelling, redness, and bruising over the next couple of weeks.
Cold compresses can help swelling and bruising fade quickly. Avoid rubbing your eyes, and sleep with your head raised for the first few nights. Patients who wear contact lenses should wait about two weeks before putting them in.
In the days following surgery, you will need to avoid strenuous activity. Dr. Hermann will monitor your recovery to let you know when it is safe to resume work, exercise, and other activities.
Dr. Hermann will send you home with your own detailed postoperative instructions to ensure that you achieve a successful recovery and long-lasting results. These instructions will include when to take prescription medicines and apply topical antibiotics to avoid infection. It is important to follow these instructions carefully.
Paying for Eyelid Surgery
Plastic surgery performed for cosmetic purposes is not covered by insurance. However, if your blepharoplasty is being performed for medical reasons to restore peripheral vision, insurance may cover a portion of the procedure.
Financing your procedure can help make blepharoplasty easier to afford. That's why Dr. Hermann accepts payment through CareCredit®. This trusted lender breaks out-of-pocket costs into low-interest monthly payments.
